Three days and counting

I'm so excited to be joining the Scamp community soon!!!

I have 3 little girls and we are so jazzed that our new Scamp which we ordered back in I guess about September will be ready for pickup this coming Friday. I live in Colorado so tomorrow (Wednesday) will get up and drive about 750 miles to far eastern South Dakota. Thursday has me going another 250 miles give or take to get about 40 miles out of Backus, figured it would be nice to have an easy 2nd day drive given how much driving I'll have coming back at a much slower speed. Unfortunately, I can't stay in the area so will be picking up my Scamp 13" Standard with Big Bed first thing Friday a.m. and then heading back to Colorado with it in tow.

So any final tips you all have would be appreciated!!! Got everything I need (I think!!!), a bit of ugh about having to drive 1,000 miles each way but I wanted to do that so I could see the factory and ask them questions in person as opposed to having someone else with not much stake in the game go hauling my trailer 1,000 miles to me. Looks like lots of fast food and no excercise are on the schedule for me the next few days!!!

PU Scamp

Gwander, I am jealous. My PU not till Sept.

I understand that Scamp provides a lot of info on the day of PU. Hope you will be able to take advantage of that.  Several here have suggested staying a night or two close to Scamp in case you need to have adjustments made to the trailer. Hope your Scamp comes out PERFECT.

We will be driving from Calif.  1903 miles and back (via the southern route), more miles, little vac.

Good travels to you!

Mark

Your new Scamp

We are picking up our 13' on Good Friday and traveling from western Pennsylvania!!!  Taking 2 days out and hoping to find a cheap motel near Backus.  then a leisurely ride back. We will be traveling to Colorado in July, so long ride then.  Good luck and safe travels!

Near Backus Hotel

You might want to look into the Rodeway Inn south of Backus in Pine River. It is not 5 star but is near by. There is also a nearby restaurant called Bites Grill and Bar a bit further south on Highway 371 from the Roadway that has decent food. We have patronized both and survived.

Hotel

We stayed at the Rodeway Inn in Pine River and I'm afraid I can't recommend it. I'm not really "high maintenance" but the overpowering smoke smell in our non-smoking room made it tough to sleep. (Of course I was so excited about getting my Scamp I wasn't going to sleep much anyway.) The dirty towel on the back of the bathroom door when we arrived didn't make me much more confident that the room had been cleaned very well. The "Scamp discount" didn't make it particularly inexpensive, although I was there during snowmobiling season and I bet that's about done now.

My opinion, so take it for whatever it is worth based on your own priorities.

Where To Stay

We also had a little over 1K each way from West Virginia to pick up our Scamp 16 the first week of November 2016.  We spent two nights at the AmericInn near Pequot Lake.  It's about twenty minutes up to Backus even in morning "traffic".  We might have camped some, but most everything is closed by November.  This motel is very nice and was inexpensive to us (all relative of course).  There are lot's of "bar & grill" establishments in the area and we had a couple of good meals at the A-Pine which is across the road from the AmericInn; there was good chili and cold beer among other fare.  We too enjoyed the trip as a mini vacation, but then we're retired so most every trip (or even every day) is a vacation!

Americinn

We alo stayed the night before pick up at the Americinn in Pequoi.  The rooms are big and like a resort and reasonably priced. They have a nice camp site adjacent with some pullin sites if you are nervous about having to back in.  A-Pine had good food and almost walking distance. A short drive from Bakus you could definitley do worse.  We enjoyed it.

I've also seen it suggested

I've also seen it suggested that you ask if you can video record the "walk through" that they give you. Especially if you are new to RVing, you most definitely will not be able to remember it all. Good luck, and have fun.

How was the trip?

Jerry, I have been so wooried about your trip to PU your Scamp this past weekend. Been following the storm conditions in Minn. hoping you did not have any significant delays?

If you are ok and able, would love to have a FU to your journey.

Hope you are ok!

Yup made it home!

Yup, I made it home, the drive out to Minnesota was perfect. Coming home as soon as I hit South Dakota it dropped to about 7 degrees and starting snowing a bit, not enough to stick on the interstate thankfully. Stopped in SD for the night, next day cold and super windy all the way from SD through Nebraska, finallly about 100 miles from Denver it got calm and 60 degrees!!!! Thing towed awesome, never had any issues even with the wind blowing like crazy and trucks passing me. Glad to be home and have it tucked away in the garage for a couple months now. Anyone recommend I disconnect the battery for the next two months?
