Red paint color to match red strip on old Scamp

Hi,

Has anyone MATCHED the red stripe color of the red stripes on an old Scamp? Its like a rusty Cardinal red.  I don't know if the used the same Red stripes though the years.

I would like to put strips on an outside hot air exhaust grill for an AC i put in the closet.

I've taken a lot of how I did it pictures, because, I couldn't find ANY info, anywhere, on how to do it step by step. in the future I'll post them and other changes I've made to my 1985 Scamp 13', I got one year ago.

Red Paint

Hi Lis,

I got pretty close on my 81 13 years ago. The way I did it was to go to Home Depot and get color swatches then over to the hobby store and match the model paint. Didn't need a lot so the small model paint jar was enough. Due to the fade it's probably the only way to do. It wasn't dead on when applied initially, but a couple of months in the sun and you couldn't tell the difference.

Red Paint

Greg,

I took the piece of the shell with the red strips on it I cut for the AC, I found the dead on, perfect  color on the cap of of a Rust-o-leum  can, they only had gloss. When I painted the grill it looked like Candy Apple Red. now it needs to be sanded dull so it can be painted again.

Going to the hobby store is a very good idea. If I find the right color match I'll post it.

thank you for your reply, Greg,
