frustrated help for 2 things in "rehabed 16' scamp

Help, I have a 1985 Scamp that I had rehabbed at scamp in MN. this winter.  I asked if the systems all worked toliet shower etc.  just before finally using to go and do an art show in Quincy IL I found out that the ' new pump" leaked which scamp sent a new one asap.  The big problem is the bath room toilet it leaks water into the bowl as we where driving, filling up the black tank; and splashing into the shower pan the onto the carpeted floor, which got soaked. I did not leave the fresh water pump on while driving but i really dont remember. anyway all the portable water was gone when we got to our camp site, i filled the tank again and sure enough the shower pan and toilet where of light brown water, and when I tried to flush the water would not go down because the black tank was full also water was leaking outof the seams between toilet and square raised mount and shower pan. Scamp was no help.do fix water valve on toilet and put in new seals, where do I find parts for this (its a Mansfield Traveler model 911 or 910)

Next the bed sucks for comfort even after spending money replacing all the cushions.  Where can I find a gel foam mattresse pad to use ontop of the bed in the right size with out spending a massive amount of money...already put $9000. into trailer.please help

I agree about the Bed. We got

I agree about the Bed. We got a Quick bed air bed we use, and deflate it and store it during the day. Dont remember were the wife got it.

As far as the toilet goes I dont know why that happened but mine was leaking so I put a valve before the toilet so I could shut it off and still use the water til I got it fixed.

It works for us. Jon

Fixes...

First, the seal around the bottom of the toilet is not designed to hold back any water pressure (normally the water simply drops down into the Black Water Tank ) since your Black Tank is full, the water is backing up into your toilet and putting outward pressure on the toilet seal. Chances are, once you dump your Black Tank the toilet seal will function properly and you will not have to replace the toilet seal. If the toilet continues to leak after the tank has been drained you can remove the toilet and replace the seal at the bottom of the toilet (you can get a new seal at any RV store or online).

It sounds like your pump was either left on during your travel, or, the pump was not wired properly and the switch was by-passed and there is no way to turn it off. I would start by checking the switch, turn the switch off and see if the pump operates, better still, check for voltage at the pump with a voltmeter and the switch off.

Until you are certain the pump shuts off with the switch and the pump is not faulty, I would pull the pump fuse while traveling, or whenever I am away from the trailer for long periods of time. By the way, there are newer pumps available which prevent these kind of constant flow flooding issues.

You will also need to check the toilet valve to determine why the toilet was allowing water to flow into the bowl in the first place, but that can wait till you fix your immediate needs.

As far as your sleeping comfort, you need to find a Sams Club or a Target, or a Walmart and buy a 2 to 4 inch Memory Foam Mattress Topper. This will vastly improve your sleeping comfort. You will need a large pair of scissors or a "Long" utility knife to trim the topper to fit your sleeping area ( I recommend the type of utility knife with the segmented blades which can be broken off to give you a new sharp point -- I would also recommend a knife with a blade locking feature so the blade doesn't slip in or out while you trim your mattress pad ).

Example Knife:

Stanley 10-481 FatMax Snap-Off Knife, 18mm

Please let us know if this helped.

Happy Scamping !!!

Frustrated

As far as the bed goes I got a pillow top at Walmart.   That helped greatly.

Also look around for a business that sells the foam.  Often they will cut to fit for you.

Foam topper

I bought a foam topper at WalMart for around $17 bucks and cut it to fit.  Laid the topper on the dinette bed and carefully marked it with a sharpie to match the contours of the trailer wall.  I then cut the foam with sharp scissors; easier for me to control than a utility type blade or what not.  Got a perfect cut and I find it makes the sleeping surface of the bed much more comfortable.

Now I'm going to have to do the same for the lower bunk/sofa.  I end up sleeping there when the grown kids come along.  I'm short and the space is more than adequate for me, but that sofa cushion...OMG.  My lower back is killing me when I wake up!

bed

Ah the bed. I tried an air mattress. It was like camping in a tent. Went to ebay , after measuring the bed area. Bought a 5" foam mattress, open up the backside , took a electric knife and cut the width down then measured for the radius at the corners. Cut them down. Had some heavy duty waxed string form leather work and sewed up the backside. It is so nice I go out and sleep in the Scamp once a month. I live in New York state. It is comfortable and not noisey like an air mattress. Turn on the heater and sleep like a baby.

Did you buy a full or queen size foam mattress to cut to fit?
