First outting & a couple questions.

Hi All:  Didn't go too far to do an "educational" outing.  Went okay, but still have a few questions.

(1) Didn't realize how quickly the gray water accumulated until I was outside and notice a small overflow on the ground.  Is there an actual overflow drain in the gray tank, or do I have to be concerned about water under the flooring now.

(2) The electric/gas water heater has an interesting drain plug.  Difficult at best to turn and get off.  Initially when reading about, it referred to a mfg. manual for this unit which was not to be found.  Will have contact Eveland on that issue.

Any insight will be gratefully appreciated.   Barb

Got great information from few campers.  With MEA weekend the park was crowded with kids, dogs, bikes etc. Last hurrah before winter and it was already cold.  Furnace got its workout and we were cozy.  And Halloween?   The dog and I walked the grounds passing out our treats (Mini pretzels)  Great icebreaker.

First outing

1. There is no overflow but there is a vent that loops up under the dinette seat cabinet and back down  through the floor. There are several hose connections and the main drain connected to the tank all under the trailer. You will need to crawl under and check the connections for leaks. Sometimes the big drain line gets bumped or unsupported and will be required to be resealed. Most grey water leaks are below the floor.

2. The Atwood W/H drain plug is plastic. If memory serves me, the plug takes a 15/16"  6 point socket, a 12 point socket will round off the plug. It can be removed with a shallow socket and extension and breaker bar. They sell a wand to help flush out the H/W tank and it helps to block up the wheel on the other side of the trailer when flushing out the tank.

Grey water overflow, heater plug

Eddie explained it well, I am just adding my experience. I also had an overflow of grey water on our first trip. It may take one more trip and you will learn how to minimize the water usage, and estimate if you need to drain it. The grey water is easy to drain in a bucket and carry to a dish washing sink, or to a toilet, if you had to. The black you can estimate if you shine a flash  light down the bowl.

Once I left the system pressurized by the water pump and removed the water heater plug without thinking. I had a small geyser resulting, driven by the air that was left in the heater and the pipes. The incidental benefit was removing a huge amount of sediment out of the heater. - As they say, there are many ways to skin a cat...

Our gray water is an issue

Our gray water is an issue for us. We must drain it quite often as the sink starts to gurgle and will not drain. When we are at a full service hook up camp, we just keep our gray water drain tube in the ground receptacle.

Grey water gurgle

How is the tank vented? For water to go in air must come out.

Check Sink Drain Line

Check your sink drain line and follow it to the tank input connector. Several people have had the drain line get a kink in it and have an issue like you are having. You can also disconnect the drain line at the tank and see how the sink drains into a bucket. also check to see if the tank input tube is clear.

If the drain slows after a while it could be a vent problem as stated in post #5. Under the dinette seat where the sink drain is connected you will see another hose connected to another tank connector. The hose loops up about 6" and goes back through the floor, this is the tank vent. An insect may have built a nest in the vent tube. From under the trailer you can shoot water into the vent line to clear it.

My bet is on a kinked drain line.
