Changed my TV yesterday!

Bought a 2017 Subaru Outback 4cyl 1/2/17 for snow driving . About 2 weeks later decided to order a scamp. Settled on 13' due to TV weight ratings and home storage space. Have been reading lots of input last couple months and since we live in Western Calif and love to go to Tahoe,. have been worried about the TV and the Sierra climb. Yesterday I "casually " looked at my local Toyota dealership online, they had a 2016 6cyl Highlander with tow package and 15K miles. Decent price and they bought my Subie with $3500 to spare. My wife ain't so happy that we, I , just lost a bit over $5k on the deal. I wish I could calm her worries but at least she will see that I am confident about my TV now and .........

Retirement is so fun, I am spending a bit of my retirement income, but I can't take it with me!

Just sayin'.

Spring is upon us here. Nice change!!!!

Scamp upgrade too?

So since your wife already ain't so happy are you going all out and changing your Scamp order to a 16? You really should put that new bigger TV to work to make proper use of it ;)

? 16' ?I

I would love to... However, The 16' would extend into the sidewalk. In this residential neighborhood that is forboten. I would need some drastic, and major cement work etc. Don't think it is in the works ,.... this year... Ha!

? 16' ?I

Hi Mark,

We bought a 13 footer 11 years ago.  We have not wanted nor needed a larger unit in all that time  (256,000 trailer miles from Key West, FL to North of the Arctic Circle and across Canada many times including Newfoundland and Labrador in that 11 years).  Our "Lil Critter" does exactly what we dreamed of doing for our retirement.  It pulls with ease on the smallest, country or mountain roads and fits on ferries that the big riggers wish they could see.  It fits in tent sites of State/National Parks or in 50 amp sites next to those multi million dollar rigs.  Just because you have 6 cylinders, you do not need to always use every bit of power they put out.  The unused power goes toward higher gas mileage.

Hang in there and give your 13er a chance.  It might be exactly what you need also.

Yup...I do see those winky eyed smiley faces of other's posts.

Everything is friendly during these "campfire chats".  Now, what happened to all of those some-mores?   :>)

Lil Critter

Having known Bob n Bev and been in and toured all that they have done with Lil Critter they do get the maximum enjoyment with the 13 and his points are very valid. We toured half the country with our 13 and 2 toddlers when we first go into fiberglass campers so I also can thoroughly endorse that the 13 Scamp will take care of you.

I do have to give one of these on this post just for Bob.  wink

New Tow Vehicle--New Scamp

While I applaud Roche's suggestion, it is just not a practical solution to your Scamp problem.

You NEED to order a 16' Scamp and KEEP the 13' for weekends !!!

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

16' Scamp

In all seriousness...

Now is the perfect time to re-evaluate the 16' Scamp.

You need to envision your Scamping style: consider if a 13' Scamp might be a little bit small for you and your wife if you are stuck inside for a week in bad weather.

One very common comment from people who have upgraded to the 16' (with the side dinette) is they can keep their bed laid out all day and not have to convert it into the dinette and back every day.

Also, could you stay out on longer trips with the 16?

Would you be able to boondock more with the 16 vs the 13?

Presuming you are inclined to boondock much at all.

Worst case; playing the What-If game will make for a good bit of enjoyment.

PS: Parking issue can be solved easily, buying the wrong Scamp is a little bit harder...

PPS: Not that buying any Scamp could be wrong in any way !!!

PPPS: Congrats on the NEW TRUCK !!!

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

parking issues

David, "PS: Parking issue can be solved easily, buying the wrong Scamp is a little bit harder..."

I don' know about that? I really want the Scamp at my home. I am seriously going to take some measurements on the side of the house and see, but it looks pretty narrow. With the apparent ease of selling used Scamps , it might be an easier sell to Cheryl if we find the 13' too small. Cheryl has already told me that the bed "stays down" no matter what. Hmmmmm. No bed, no inside table, kinda like the van camping, but a bit larger with bathroom and inside stove.

Thanks for the interest in this dilemma! HaHaHadevil

Which Size????

Mark, we are just 8 weeks away from Scamp Camp Far West.  We have 8  13' Scamps confirmed, from older models to newer models dated 2015.  We have 5  16' newer models including  one with side dinette + bathroom.    You have already indicated your wife wants the bed to "stay down".   You should be able to see any configuration that interests you at Far West.   Come, loaded with questions.  We will probably have answers!

16 Scamp

If Mark can calm his wife down on taking the hit on the TV, I'll bet when they see the differences and compare at Scamp Camp there is going to be a serious discussion on the way home. surprise
