Back home and the work begins

Well we have arrived back home after being gone a month to the day to pick up the new 16ft Spirit delux..it was quite a trip and nothing extreme happened .We went over 4600 miles and only spotted one other Casita on the roads other then us! What happens to all these I see people talking about,I would think that the way they are picking up the new ones each day that we would have spotted more then one going down the roads,guess we travel roads that no one else does ha. Being pretty nervous about the door swingiing open after our experience last year bringing the new Scamp home,I kept one eye on the road and one eye back towards the trailer door{Good thing I have two eyes heh} but it never opened and stayed shut tight the whole way home,we were concerned since the 16 Casita has basically the same door as a Scamp. Everything is jammed packed into that small space in the trailer and the back under the capper on the truck bed,oh what fun it is going to be today bringing in and unloading everything out there,much of which I can not even remember after 4 weeks...Will try and get some pic's later on,we have a lot to do and our weather at home is not what we were expecting for here at all,its cold! Well cold to us anyhow.Must go to the DMV today and transfer tags and such and pay those high taxes to get all legal for the state of Nv. Only problem we had came yesterday when we were traveling home and had the fridge running on battery and the trailer battery died for some reason.will have to start checking out why that happened,it had been running just fine on battery for a couple of days while traveling and on propane at night,and then it died yesterday after leaving Kingman Az and coming on home! We came up from Tucson thru Quartzsite,it was the first time we had been thru there,my,lots and lots of campers sitting around in differant spots down there,cant wait to go back for the outting with the group and spend a couple of days there with everyone.

Good report

Glad you are home for a bit and had a safe and successful pickup. Sounds like you got a solid trailer and can now settle back into many road trips and coming to the gatherings.

We so hope to meet you some

We so hope to meet you some day at a Scamp gathering. You would have to come east and go west. I know there are winter gatherings, but we also know our Scamp is now full of antifreeze. Once Dawn retires, we shall have more opportunities to,head west for a full winter.

Next spring

We might try getting back to the east some by next spring,my dear friend lives in Pa and wants us to come see her,course that is a long way to drag the camper:-) Would also like to dip down into Tennesee to see another friend,just depends on what our schedule is by then,but I am sure somewhere along the way we will all get to meet up:-)

No sales tax?

Congratulations on your new trailer.  Someday, we'll be toodling around in a new egg, but until then...

I went to the DMV to pay for "Tax, Title & Transfer" and made it out of there for less than $20.  I was blown away.  I was expecting hundreds of dollars but there were two different customer service agents working on my paperwork, together, and I can only presume that they have it right.  I guess since my Scamp doesn't have a motor, like a motorhome, and because it's a 1991 that there were no sales tax due despite the reported sales amount paid.

We're into a renovation now and should be ready for the coming season!

Sales taxes in different states

It must just be the differance between the states and the sales taxes,out here in Nv you pay sales taxes on every kind of vechicle,think we paid about $1600 to the DMV when we went that day,and that was for the title and the tag also,Some states you dont even have to have a tag,is Ky like that? I know in Ks if the trailer weighs less then 2000pds you dont need a tag,out here everything needs a tag...Course next year it wont cost us as much as the sales tax is paid..We had bought a new 81 Scamp when we lived in Ks and I cant remember if we even paid sales tax on it since we didnt have to have a tag for it,we probably did and I just cant remember,to many years ago

KS Taxes Everything

I can't imagine that you can or ever could purchase anything in KS and not pay sales and personal property tax.  They are taxing us to death and trying to find a way to do it after death.   Here you pay the sales tax when you get the tag and then you pay the personal property tax after that each year.

I did find out that with our pop-up, even though it actually weighs 2200 lbs, they take the official weigh which is less than 1900 lbs so we don't have to tag it.  They take a book amount for value also.

Ks taxes

Cathy I know Ks taxes everyone almost to the point of breaking them,and the state is still broke! We lived there and our cars and house kept us paying big time each year.I realize they need tax money to run the state,but they sure dont do it fairly there{in my opinion}
