I've always used 3M Marine sealant for smaller jobs. Proflex would be a good choice for larger needs. I use Butyl tape for all vents/windows or anything that sandwiches two surfaces together. Definitely, no one should ever use silicone sealants on fiberglass trailers.
Why is silicon not a good choice for fiberglass? I have a 2014 19' and it seems that all the windows and vents are factory sealed with a silicon-like material (or so it looks/feels like it). If so, am I looking to remove this and reseal all these areas?
The biggest issue with silicone is on fiberglass trailers is it doesn't seal properly and will leak or continue to leak. Silicone leaves a mess for whomever has to remove it. If you ever have to remove old silicone from a fiberglass trailer you wouldn't use it ever again. I sure hope Scamp Trailers isn't using Silicone Sealant, but it is most likely ProFlex which is a clear sealant and resembles the look of silicone, but it is an RV sealant that most manufacturers use and is very good.
I'm dealing with a roof vent leak now and on first look the factory chaulking looked intact. But with a little finger pressure on the bead it easily separated from the fan flange. Leak exposed! Removed all the chaulking ( yes, major PIA) and sealed with butly rubber tape that adhered well and seems pretty bomb proof. Not real pretty, but who cares its on the roof... FYI, I did check Scamps parts page and they are selling Sila-seal chaulk, 100% RTV silicone in both white and clear. Curious....???

Greg A-- thanks for the help
A good product as well as the butyl for a roof vent is Dicor self leveling caulk. Glad you got it sealed up.

Anyone know of a pre-formed seal (tape) to use around the belly band?
