Running Furnace from Battery instead of Inverter

Hi Fellow Scampers,

I posted this in the wrong place at first.  We recently purchased a Scamp 13 in need of a little TLC.  While checking out some wiring issues I discovered the only way the Atwood furnace will run is if the Scamp is plugged in and the inverter is switched to converter.  I would like to change it so the furnace will run off the battery and the inverter will keep the battery charged.  Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks

Jon

I would be checking things

I would be checking things out.  If the battery is undercharged or is on its last legs, the sail switch will not have enough air flow to allow the furnace to light. Do the other 12 volt items work?  Are the connections between the battery and converter complete?

The inverter function changes 12V. d.c. into 120 vot a.c., perhaps the converter / inverter is dedicated to only one function at a time.

This may not be an issue,  our first 13' Scamp's furnace was home to muddobbers and had many mud nests in its vents.  The nests restricted air flow and the sail switch would not function.  Now, in the bug months, we keep the vents covered with aluminized tape.   Keep digging and checking.

Misspoke

Sorry I misspoke it not an inverter it is a convertor.  I want to be able to run the furnace for short periods of time when the camper is not plugged in to 110V

Our 1998 scamp 16 ,could run

Our 1998 scamp 16 ,could run on the battery for powering the furnace electronics and fan , but once the battery is almost discharged the furnace will not work , we have powered the furnace for several days without using any other source of power , we are conservative people !

I think with a good group 27

I think with a good group 27 deep cycle battery I will be fine I do not run a lot of other electronics.  I am also going to install a solar panel so that will help when I am someplace with out 110v
