Replacing door lock

I'm looking for suggestions on replacing the door lock with a more traditional RV latch and interior lock . Someone must have done this and I would appreciate any ideas . I'd like to get rid of the " pin " lock

Flat door lock

I installed a Trimark flat lock years ago. Scamp said it couldn't be done...so I did it. Makes it real nice not having to fight with that inside lock pin. And you can unlock a locked door from the outside with your key.I think I have all the info on how to do this nice up-grade to your Scamp. Anybody want the info and dimentions?

Lock

This has always been a big issue. I've seen entry door and deadbolts modded but not ur solution.

Post up the directions, etc. and we'll add this into the mods table of contents so folks can find it easily in the future.

Here is a set of photos I found when looking at this. A bit of custom fab work, but not too much.

Flat Door Lock

OK... I just took a look at the pictures from the site that was posted of the flat lock and it looks pretty good except for the door strike plate, The one I made instales vertically and is much thicker and won't bend as easily. It will take some time to drill and tap the screw holes, but you will be able to have the door trim in place. Also when you install the inner workings of the lock, the 1/2 inch thick spacer installs as a capitol 'C' or a 'U' on it's side with the open side facing the right. You will need the spacer to make the door thicker on the inside so the lock will tighten in place on the door.

I just hope the file I scanned to my computer will down load so you can see it. I'm not a real high tech peerson, I'm more of a hands on kind of person. So let's see what happens when I try this.

Flat Door Lock

I forgot to mention that there are more than one brand of flat door locks out there. So I would strongely suggest you purchase the TriMark lock with the built-in keyed dead bolt for two reasons. 1. The Trimark is made better than the others, especially the actual key tumblers so they work better and last longer. and 2.They use a double sided key whick isn't directional when inserted in the lock.

This instalation is way easier to do than it looks. Just don't rush wile you are doing it.

RV Door Lock Project

Both of these solutions look really good and not too challenging to implement.

This post has now been added to the Modifications Table of Contents so it is easy to find in the future.

Riley, is this the Trimark Lock you used?

Flat Door Lock

I did some looking on line at the TriMark site and the one I used is the #060-0251 which has the paddle handle and the keyed dead bolt. I got the chrome one but you can get it in white or black. I purchased it locally so I could make sure it had the double sided key system and the last time I looked they were about $55.00. These are made here in the USA and like I pointed out earlier, you don't want the inexpensive copy cat imported ones as they won't last very long or work very smoothly.
