I have a 1994 scamp with furnace and dual propane tanks. Looking to go hunting/boondock without 30 amp power. I have solar/battery and am wondering if I can use the furnace when not connected to 30 amp power? How dumb of an idea is this? Looks like 30-40 degrees overnight. Thank you

Furnace and Boondocking
Just to clarify I was thinking no generator or tow vehicle power

Not enough info on solar/battery and location to tell you for certain, but shouldn’t be a problem unless you try and keep it 72 all night. Are your lights all converted to LED?
At those temps we’ve never found we have to run the furnace that much overnight.

I would think that the camper's battery condition would be a major factor. What happens when the battery gets too low, furnace will not light. I would carry a small portable genset and charge the battery after I returned form each day's hunt.

We have used our 1999 16' a few times off-grid in cold weather. We have a (roughly) 100 AH battery. If we start with it fully charged, it'll go two nights, down to the 20s outside, keeping the interior up to 50. I'm looking seriously into adding solar, probably 200W, before next camping. I think that would hold it indefinitely.
