Electric Brake Question

I’m planning to order a 13 ft. Scamp (with bathroom) and want to know if I should get electric brakes.

I’ll be pulling the trailer with a 2015 Toyota Highlander V6 with the factory tow package.

Thank you.

Electric brakes are always a good idea and worth the money. While sway isn't a prevalent problem with these trailers, if you do find yourself in a situation where the trailer begins to sway, the best and by far most effective thing to do is apply the trailer brakes without braking the tow vehicle. Having this option could keep a bad situation from progressing to a disastrous situation in a manner of minutes. Plus, it's easier on your tow vehicle brakes.

Trailer Brakes

Yes, I agree! We were towing our 13 footer with a Subaru Forester, so ordered trailer brakes. After one season of towing we upgraded to a Honda Ridgeline truck with a 6 cylinder, a much heftier vehicle. The Ridgeline is wired for a brake controller but I wanted to pull the camper a few times without it to see how it towed without using the trailer brakes. The 13 footer is small enough that you don't really need them, buy Lyle is correct about the added safety. At some point before the next camping season, I will install the brake controller in the Ridgeline.
