Brake wire problems

I saw several posts on Facebook about new 13s losing lights and brakes, as mine did. My local RV tech found that the red wire coming down to the breaks pulled out because it was too short to survive a bounce of the springs. Scamp said a new guy on the line was cutting the wire too short but he is doing it right now.  They will have it repaired under warranty if you call.

Thanks for sharing

A belated thanks for posting this. I've just returned from a couple weeks on the road and lost my brakes (but not lights) during the trip. Thanks to your post I had a heads-up about the short wire. A relative I was visiting reconnected the wire and showed me what was happening so I could connect it again if need be. After connecting it twice on my way through Yellowstone, I stopped at a auto parts store and bought $5 worth of supplies and fixed it the next day. It was quick and took longer to crawl back out from under the camper to talk to the helpful folks who asked if I needed help than to actually splice the wire. I was sure glad the brakes worked  while I was driving through the canyons of southern Utah and the mountains of Colorado!

Same problem with my 13' Scamp

I picked up my 13' Scamp in February 2017, and it was built in January 2017.  I found and fixed the brake connection once and assumed it was a bad connector.  After reading this I bet it has pulled a part again.  When I get it out of storage next Spring I will lengthen the wire.

I wonder why Scamp wouldn't send potentially affected customer details of this safety problem.

Thanks to C2B2 for starting this thread.

Safety notice?

I've wondered that very same thing. I suppose it is a legal issue if they admit to us they know about it, but I didn't appreciate my safety being jeopardized with something so simple to fix.
