AuTowBrake opinions?

Hello all,

Picking up a 19’ in April.

Eveland’s is offering the “AuTowBrake” brake controller  , installed on delivery.

Tried searching the forum but found very little re this brake controller.

Would much appreciate anyone’s input or experience with this unit.

Thx again and Happy Scamping

RE: AuTowBrake opinions

Its been discussed some on the "other" forum.  It appears that they started to offer it only because some Subaru models did not play well with regular brake controllers.   I have not seen one in person but read some about it.  For me, I would stick with a traditional hard wired controller if that were an option. I feel better with time tested tech that is non-wireless.  If I were to go with a wireless unit then it would be the Prodigy.  But note that wireless is a bit of a misnomer since you still need the power from the tug wired to the trailer for the brakes. Its just that the controller in the cab is wireless.

One of the few advantages of the AuTowBrake is that it is easier to switch tow vehicles.  Another vehicle that has a7 pin with brake power can be used without moving the brake controller.  With the unique hitch on the Scamp 19, you wont be changing tow vehicles very often so that is a moot point.

You did not mention the truck you will be using.. some new ones have trailer brake controllers built it.  And if not, there still might be a wiring harness making it easy to install a regular wired controller.

Thx Gordon,

Thx Gordon,

Sound advice.

Good point about not swapping tow vehicles often on the 5er.

Likely tow vehicle will be a 4-5 year old F-150.  Not sure if they come with brake controller on their tow-package option.

I do like the idea of hard-wired rather than wireless. Guess i'll be going P3 ways...

Thx again.
