Hello Everybody!

We're getting ready to put in our order on a new Scamp.  We will be going from a 1985 13 foot model that we bought used about 5 years ago, to a new 16 footer.  Because we purchased our Scamp used, we didn't deal with anyone at Scamp in Backus.  I know this may be a delicate question, but I'm wondering if any fellow Scampers can give me any advice on who you would recommend to talk to from the Scamp sales team.  I'm looking forward to traveling in our new Scamp next summer and fall!

Thanks for any help and advice!

We had a good experience driving to the factory and placing our order.

Our sales experience was good but we found we had to drive the conversation. Since Scamp is a custom build and many items are extra's it's best to have a game plan and a check list of items you wish to purchase. This forum is also a great place to discover how others have enjoyed (or not) having added certain items.

If you add extra outlets for example or a reading light you will want to specify where you want those items located for your convenience.

When we ordered ours I had it planned out as best I could from having followed this forum. We talked with our sales person, Jim, and he wrote up the order. We then asked to take a break, went for a mid-morning snack down the road and came back to adjust the order. We also looked inside a similar trailer at the factory to confirm our additions or deletions.

One example; We actually stood inside the 16 Deluxe at the factory to make our decision to leave out the corner sink for the bathroom. For us it was more important to have extra room in the shower area.

It was a long wait over this past winter but we have exactly what we wanted in our trailer.

We received our phone call from factory production in March to confirm our build. We moved an outlet and deleted yet another item in that particular conversation. Once complete our pickup was in May and scheduled to a specific date and time.

One last thing.............I'm sure you have camping experience beyond what I have but camping overnight near the factory and making sure everything works to your satisfaction is important. They provided a fist full of owners manuals for all the add-ons and was time well spent.

Yes, make a trip to the factory, but first call and get the sales packet and price list. Call ahead, and be prepared, it’s a small but busy office. For me it was an easy one-day trip there and back. Jim was good to work with even though the Scamp family had just lost a member, days before. I did not know that I wanted a birch interior until I stepped into one. I’m near Colfax, Wisconsin if you want to see a 16’ deluxe close to home.   (or just click on my name and search late June for pictures of the pick-up, ordering was in September of 2016). I will be dry camping at Coon Forks park near Fall Creek this weekend along with two other Scamp owners, if you would like to go for a drive. I do not know what the charge is to visit and not camp.

Hi Everyone,

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your help and advice.  It helps to talk with people who have gone through the process.  We have gotten the Scamp packet and price sheet earlier this year.  I think I've almost got it memorized!  I know that we do want additional cabinets, lighting, and outlets.  I always  pick up good ideas from this forum.

I plan on getting our Scamp on order now, and then later this summer or fall, we'll go up and talk about all the details, like the  extra cabinets, lighting, and outlet placements.   We did go up to Backus this past winter, but it was about -20, and it just wasn't a pleasant day to look around very much.  I'm glad we have some time to finalize everything before the actual build starts.  Camping in the area for a few days after pickup sounds like a great plan.  That gives us time to check it all out, and get any bugs worked out if needed.

Thanks also for the offer to look at your Scamp in Wisconsin this weekend.  You should have a nice weekend for Scamping!   I'm looking forward to Scamping along the North Shore of Lake Superior in August.

Thanks again!

Thanks again, and happy Scamping!

We picked up our newly hatched egg in early June this summer. Wayne was the sales person and quite helpful throughout the entire process.

We camped the first night nearby at Pine Mountain Campground. It was extremely useful, particularly since the owner knows Scamps inside and out and could answer some typical inexperienced/newbie questions like showing us how to put the rear stabilizers back. The walk-through of the trailer at the factory is really fast--everything about your scamp in an hour. This is probably more than the experienced trailer camper needs but less than we needed. Being able to try out everything safely nearby was a huge help.

Good luck! After some initial hiccups we are pretty happy.

Nick has been great!

Hi, I've been working with Nick and it's been a great experience. He makes great suggestions, asked me questions to help discern the best choices for me, took further pictures of the cabinets for me including measuring them and sending me all the info. We've interacted a few times over email -- he always responds. And we've talked 3 to 4 times on the phone during these 7 months. He's been fantastic through this whole process.

That's not to imply anything negative about the other sales people since I've never worked with them. I just want to say that Nick has gone above and beyond and I greatly appreciate it!

Hoping your adventures are wonderful,

I bought my Scamp used, but when researching, I happened to speak with Wayne, and dealt with him later again. He sent me information and all. I also spoke to Micah Eveland on the phone and by e-mail. All folks there are very nice to deal with, they will treat you well. I was also given a great factory tour when traveling through, even though I did not buy from them directly. How do you choose who to ask for when you call? Maybe just call and see who is available that instant.

My initial inquiry was

My initial inquiry was handled by Wayne a few years ago. Since then I bought a used 13. I stopped by the factory last fall to have some work done on my used Scamp. At that time, Jim gave me a tour of the factory and gave me free reign to examine any of the Scamps waiting on the lot for pick-up. I must say, that was very useful in getting a handle on what the various offerings entail.

I also spoke with Micah, the parts department, and the service technician. All were extremely friendly and generous with their time. They even gave me a free replacement door curtain when I asked about buying one. Great folks, great company.

Edit: Just wanted to add, shortly after getting my Scamp I had a new axle installed locally. Scamp parts supplied the axle, and shipped it immediately, I got it within 4 days of ordering. When the local shop had some questions about the recommended install, they told me the Scamp service folks were very helpful, giving them exact directions and tips.

I wouldn't worry about getting a "bad" sales person, from my experience, they do not have any "bad" employees. :-)
