Help, fan stuck on on, awful whine

Hi Scampers. We are on way to camping & when stopped at rest area saw fan cover up & making high pitched whine. Was closed when we pulled out. Cover continues to reopen whether close manually or with remote, whether fan itself is on or off. This is 2017 16' picked up in June. Naturally Scamp is closed right now. Shut breaker & didn't stop noise. Advice please, this is awful.

MaxxAir Fan?

We also have a 2017 16 with the MaxxAir Fan with remote control.

Our remote has an "auto" temp set feature. When the remote temperature sensor in the remote control reaches the chosen temp it will turn on the fan and open the cover. Likewise when the temp goes lower it closes the cover and turns off the fan. Is there a chance the remote has this feature turned on?

One other Thought

In your original post you mentioned turning off the breaker. The breakers are for the 110v side of things.  The on-board battery (or tow vehicle battery when hooked up) supply the 12 volt side and would be your only power source absent the shoreline plugged in at home or the RV park.

The vent fan is 12 volts and you would have to find the correct fuse, which can be pulled, and it should shut down the fan operation. On our unit it's the second fuse from the top. That same fuse also services the lights inside the trailer. Now all of this makes the assumption that scamp wired your trailer the same as ours of course. They handed me a hand written piece of paper depicting what fuse or breaker went to each onboard item.

The convert under the seating area produces 12 volts when the shoreline is plugged in. (That's a story for another time and isn't relevant as your traveling down the road)

Fan

Thanks, and yes once I got over my tizzy I pulled the fuse. It was a hot day so may have been on auto and I didn't know it. I let it sit for a few hours while we cooked and dat around then plugged the fuse back in. It all seems ok now & fortunately cooled down quite a bit so the trailer isn't too much of an oven. More to explore in the morning. So much for us newbies to learn. Thanks so much for thinking it through in plain terms.

MaxxAir fan whine fixed

Hi again and thanks JTST Scamper,

The fan continued to work just fine over our 4-day camping trip. Still no clue why it went off on a whining spree, why pulling the fuse for a couple of hours fixed it, and why it (thankfully) stayed fixed.

The only possibility of the original issue may be that the remote was pumped during travel, setting it to auto and driving the motor to overdo and causing the whine. This does not make a whole lot of sense, but currently is the only explanation I have. At least I now know which fuse to pull--second from top.

Always a learning experience. Had our first tank dumping problem with the factory issued stinky slinky--too short and pulled off. Yuck. Fortunately had a backup slinky ready for this event thanks to this forum.

Onward to the next campout!

By the way all, our dogs love camping. The floor of the trailer is solid dog at night which makes getting to the loo tricky, but they have turned out to be great campers.
