I saw from the outside a nice looking 13' Scamp the other day. I saw my first inside a Scamp about 3 months ago, a 19' graciously shown by the owner to me. She loved it and had been everywhere buying it in, I think, 2007 and still traveling quite a bite. It was small, much smaller than photos and videos made it look, but she did have a LOT of stuff in there though, as we know "less is more" in such a situation.
The Scamp setup to include the tow vehicle looked really good. An R-Pod pulled in next to us yesterday, and comparing it to the Scamp, I can see the attraction of the Scamp. Those new bloated teardrops are, I don't have a word for it.
Now, to my question, has anyone compared Weiscraft Little Joe or Ponderosa to the Scamp 13'? I am still debating what I want and taking care of other details in my life at this time. I like the wheels on the outside, like a teardrop, on the Weiscraft. Any thoughts appreciated!
http://www.weiscrafttrailers.com/ Weiscraft is slightly cuter, yeah, I know in the big picture, that should not play a big role.
It will do well if the price is right.
The price on the Weiscraft Little Joe, before options is $15,300 and add $4,995 for the Ponderosa, which is a lot to me, but does add quite a few amenities over the Little Joe. They need 12 weeks to produce. Last I heard, Scamp was taking orders now for delivery in October, maybe later as I heard that a couple weeks ago. There is a chance of a used Scamp, but unlikely, the prices/age, etc. are an issue since I understand RV systems/appliances, etc. all too well. I am also looking at stickie teardrops as a 2nd choice.

I'd be concerned about the resale. Scamp resale is a proven quotient and you very rarely lose much if any money in the Scamps. You've sure changed on your space requirements from last year.

Thanks, Greg A. I need only room for myself and Rinnie, the red dog (12 year old senior), all 3 family members are going different ways. A "taking back my life" thing with early retirement at 62 (the living on a shoestring thing). If I win the battle with the state and find appropriate day/residential services for my son with DS, I can move forward quickly. I have always been a "less is more" person.
I do need to make the right investment in a TT if going with new, used there is more wiggle room. As I said, I am looking at teardrops also, I like the nostalgia thing associated with them. There was someone making a fiberglass molded teardrop, but he relocated and his business isn't in full swing again yet - I liked that you could just hose it out to clean it. http://www.nesteggtrailers.com/
I was looking at a couple of older other brands on the internet, but started to look up costs for things like frame and axle replacement, then thinking about the cost of systems/appliances if they weren't working or working correctly and, boy, that adds up fast.
Thanks, and yes, a Scamp is known a commodity, "Scamp-like" not so much.

You really need to see the inside of a 13. It has a lot more space than the weiscraft. It has a very useable layout, and gives you more options. the couch is a comfortable place to hangout, or you can use the upper bunk as a large storage shelf Medium size totes blankets jackets ect. can go up there while camping. while driving the bunks and table must be in the down position so the totes go on the floor and blankets and jackets go on the main bed.
If your a weekend camper the basic model will probably work just fine. But if you are going to take longer trips, then the bath model is the way to go,and you may want to look at a 16, as the 13 gets a bit smaller when you add a bath.
If you call the Scamp people, they will set you up to see scamp trailers in your area.
Thanks, DaveM. I figure I could go with a bath or not having come from tenting and pop-up camping in the past. No bath = no bath to clean. : )
