Refund of Deposit?

I have a $500 deposit on a Scamp. Does anyone know if I will get a full refund of deposit IF iI cancel my order before the confirmation call and buy a private party Scamp?

I know I should ask Scamp, but it is Sunday and there may be a sale I should jump on today!

Thanks, that's what I figured. Now all I need to know is whether to stay with new or go used?

Love your quandary!

Mark, I love reading your - and other new buyers' - posts because it reminds me of the days when I was frantically searching for a 13' Scamp and was convinced that I'd never find one. Now, two 13's and one 16' later, I have my perfect travel unit. Also upgraded my tow vehicle and treated myself to a young rescue Shih Tzu mix male for a Christmas gift to myself. Now I'm set for serious travel and little camper, little dog, an assortment of stringed instruments and I will be spending a lot of time at the outdoor bluegrass festivals in our area. When Mel travels with us, we'll go in his bigger camper. I gave the second 13' - the one with the roof solar panels and lots of indoor and outdoor LED lights - to my daughter so we can meet up somewhere between MN and WI for mother/daughter/dogs camping outings.

So keep us posted, Mark. Whether you buy new or used, you're going to love it and you're going to meet some wonderful people, many of whom will also be towing a Scamp!

Refund?

I would not cancel my order.  I bought 2 used Scamps will my new 13 was on order.  The 2 used units taught me a lot, both were bargains.  I will no longer read the used ads, wondering if I should had bought a different model or other options.  For a short time we owned 3 Scamps.

If you purchase a used Scamp in advance of your build date, you should still be able to cancel the new one.  The worst that could happen is that you own a used Scamp that fits your needs and you lose your deposit.

Why 2 13's?

The first 13' was within easy driving distance - how lucky was that! - but I didn't realize until I got it home that it had an ice box rather than fridge. Ad was correct, I just read what I wanted to see. The second 13' was a longer drive but the seller contacted me when I placed a panic ad on fiberglass.rv.4sale. It was exactly what I wanted - bathroom, fridge, Fantastic fan, etc, - until I realized two things. (1) The cute mods that I made so I'd have a 'living room" during the day meant I spent much time making and unmaking the bed and storing the bedding; (2) if the bed was left made up, I had 44" inches of walking space. Mel had done so many wonderful mods to that one - solar panels, LED lighting inside and out, tornado in the toilet tank for ease of cleaning - that rather than sell it, I gave it to my daughter in WI. Now I have a 16' side dinette that the sellers had done great decorating things to - replaced carpet with tile, painted all woodwork white - that I probably paid more than needed for but it's exactly what I wanted and I never would have gone to the work of all that painting.

So sometimes it's a matter of buy/modify/don't modify/sell/ buy again. As you've seen, Scamps sell easily and keep their value.

Then when you get the final camper, you spend lots of time decorating and accessorizing. My house is a mess but my little Scamp is the playhouse that I never had as a kid. Cute, cute, cute!

Fun discussion

I saw this thread this am and chuckled to myself...if the 2009 was in good shape and well-priced, you would have had to have the cash in hand as soon as the ad came out and start driving like a dervish to score it!  I doubt anyone other than Scamp fans would believe how fast they can sell.

And Marilyn I totally agree with you--my 13' Scamp is my big-girl playhouse.  It was cute to start with of course, but I had so much fun decorating it to my heart's desire.

Spokane Sue - interior project

I had so much fun with it!  I don't sew, so I had a woman who does sewing as a sideline do the slipcovers and curtains.  The slipcovers are fitted with a drawstring underneath.  I carted the cushions to her house in stages, but didn't remove the couchback/bunk cushion, she did that one from measurements and it worked out great.  I didn't have to take it out to fit the slipcover either.  The curtains are double-faced so the pattern shows on the outside.  They are little bit "thick", I think I will put some snaps on them for closing at night because they hold their scrunchy shape and don't want to close fully.  The flooring was a real find--discontinued VCT tiles.  A local flooring co. tracked those down for me, he found a box of each in stock somewhere.  The flooring trim is some type of vinyl (?) not wood at any rate.  I did that myself, the angles and some curves of the walls were a challenge.  I used silicone caulk to glue down the trim, and the same to just tack down the floor.  If we ever sell our Scamp, it can easily be "restored" to its original condition.  My color riot might not be everyone's cup of tea!  If you aren't getting the factory awning, the canvas awnings made by Marti's Awnings out of CA are awesome.  More for shade though, they are not waterproof.  Installing the awning rail on the Scamp was fairly easy, but a bit nerve-wracking drilling into our "new" Scamp.  Both my husband and I are really happy with the way everything turned out.
