Tire Size 19'

Greetings:

I am new to the forum, having just bought a rough 19' that has been sitting for many a year.  It was made in 1991. The 13" stock tires are totally shot. Apologies if this is a dumb question or if it has been covered before (although I couldn't seem to find this info with a search). I already have a set of new 205/75R/14" trailer tires on rims by coincidence. Will I be able to just pop these right on the trailer, or are these too wide or wrong in another way somehow? There has been no axle modification. Thanks everyone! I appreciate any info you can provide on whether or not the 205/75r 14" tires are appropriate. I would just try it out myself, but I am a half day's drive away from the trailer until I can bring some tires out there to get it moving. Thanks!!

14" Tires

A friend of mine tried to install 14" tires on a stock 2 YO S-16 and he was not comfortable with the shell clearance by the door and he did not want to trim the shell. Most people trim the shell to make 14's fit on a stock S-16.  Note: S-16 &19's have the same running gear set up. With a 25  YO axle and no lift I would try to borrow some 13" utility trailer tires to get it home. 14" tires/wheels at this point would be a gamble.

After getting it home I would replace the axle, and use bolt on brackets so it could be lifted and then go with the larger tires and wheels.

Good Luck Eddie

19' axles breaking

I have read on several sites that axles had to be replaced because of breakage. Is there a problem with axles failing?

I ask because we are looking at buying a 19' foot used scamp. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Recall

Early 2000 or so Scamp installed some ALKO axles with the perches (axle mounting brackets) installed backwards and the perches cracked. The frame is 1.5" wide the perch is 2" wide. The fix was to install a bracket to make the frame 2" wide to spread the load to the big side of the perch. Scamp paid for the repair of the trailers. Not an official recall but the word was spread to most owners. The trailers  built in that time frame are about due for an axle change now. In 2010 Scamp started installing axles with bolt on brackets.
