Interior Bulb Replacement 2017 Scamp

Date: January 12, 2018

1141 Suggested vs. Original Interior Bulb

FYI,

If you need to replace the bulb in the overhead lamps on a 13 foot 2017 Scamp, do not use the bulb replacement information provided in the Scamp website (https://www.scamptrailers.com/ask-scamp/maintenance/interior.html#changi...). The 11 41 bulb does not replace the original-note the base type difference. It requires a wedge type bulb. I replaced the original bulb with a 920 wedge type. The light is less bright. See attached photos.

Original Bulb                                920 Bulb                  1141 bulb, note the base type

Lamp information

Some of the Scamp webpage information is out dated. There are also holes in the information, like what lamp to use in the side lights. It is a good time to go LED if you are a boondocker. (I think mine was a 921 about 3 watts higher than 920)

Thanks for the response. LED replacement is my next research-less juice and i assume less heat. The 921 might provide the brightness needed.

LED

The LED lighting section in our solar resources is a good base read to converting to LED lighting. It is always the first thing we do when we get a new trailer. Highly recommended.

LED lighting section i

Yes, there are MANY LEDs that will light up and use less energy. I wanted 3000k  color or less for inside with no voltage regulation. Some voltage regulators cause noise on radios. I wanted bright for the marker and other outside lights for visibility, but in the correct red/amber to keep the lights from looking faded. The order has been placed and the LEDs are starting to arrive, but spring is still a way off. I think a pair of Trojan 105+ batteries and a new box may be my next purchase.

I agree

Yes, search the forum for "LED" and lots of folks have gone before you on the quest. I read all I could find for converting our 2017 interior lights to LED. The radio interference issue can be a problem and a bad LED light will kill your television signal as one example. When I found what I thought I wanted for replacements I ordered two at a time and experimented.

Removing the interior light covers

We just picked up our new Scamp.  We purchased replacement LED bulbs.  How do I get the covers off?

Removing the light covers

I needed to start one with a knife, others were easy.
