2018 13'er

Just picked up my new Scamp yesterday morning!  Pulled 'er 700 miles home (Decatur, IL) with my 4cylinder Tacoma.  Just wanted to say hello, I've been reading this forum for almost a year!  Great resource for scamp owners.

Just in time!

I see snow in the picture, you got out of there just in time. I have a Tacoma too, how was the feel? Any swaying, is there brakes on the trailer? I'm happy for you.

Congratulations!

Now the fun can really begin. I hope you are planning on using it for some winter camping or warmer travel ahead!

Excellent

Welcome to the club. I picked up our 13 footer in July. Towed it 1600 miles home and have towed it another 1600 miles since then. We love it! Four cylinder Subaru.

Hi Gang, thanks for the

Hi Gang, thanks for the replies!

kilovictor - The Tacoma handled the trailer wonderfully!  Plenty of pulling power as long as I stayed out of 5th gear (manual transmission).  My normal 20mpg turned into 13-14 though.  I was going around 68mph the entire drive home on the interstate, I'm sure if I slow down and take the 2 lane roads I'll get much better mileage.  No trailer brakes.  I know, shame on me.  In hindsight, I would've ordered them since it's cheaper from the factory vs adding yourself.  My truck doesn't have the factory tow package wiring with the brake controller pigtail, so it would've required some surgery behind the dash and I chose the easy road.

RocheACri woods - Yes, winter camping for sure!  Already tested the furnace last night! :)  Hope to get some dark sky/new moon photos this weekend, possibly in Mark Twain Natl Forest in MO.

Anthony Memoli - WOW that's a long drive home from Backus!  Did you take your time and use the camper?  I drove straight home because of work Tuesday morning.

Greg A - THANK YOU, Greg!  Your many posts on this forum have already been very helpful.

Long way home!

Yes, we camped on our way back. Took the route east through Canada, into Vermont and south from there! I also have a standard transmission, a sixth speed. Usually keep it in 5th gear on the highway, but on flat roads can use 6th gear also. Gas mileage dropped from 28 - 30 to 18 - 20.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome!  Here's a shot from my first night out with the new camper in Shawnee National Forest.  Pulled much better at 60mph and got at least 16mpg, sweet!
