Sway control

Dean, I am interested in your sway control device. I don't have my 13' Scamp yet but have read several posts about it not being needed. Perhaps it has to do with TV or other elements . Please tell us if you added the sway control device AFTER you discovered you needed it, or initially.

Thanks for your post.

bike rack and sway

The receiver for the bike rack is welded under the bumper thus reduces clearance by about 3 inches.  It will scrape the concrete when I pull out of the driveway onto the street unless we go at an angle.  Backing it in is even worse as it is hard to go at an angle.  We also have small tires to lower the trailer to get it into the garage and it will scrape if the tongue is too high.

We added an  aftermarket sway control (friction) about a year after we got the scamp, going through some strong crosswinds and seeing a toy hauler flip .  I have not had to make any fast lane changes but I have found that the trailer is steadier and there are fewer items thrown around in the trailer. We tow with a 2006 Highlander.

sway bar

Dean, thanks for the info on the sway bar. I have also ordered a bike hitch but after your experience I may reconsider. Don't even have bikes!

Bike rack and sway

Dean, Do I understand this correctly? You're bike rack sometimes bottoms out but you are running smaller wheels/tires on the camper? Or do you put the smaller wheels on only when you are putting the unit in your garage. Thanks. Tony

AC

I like having AC for those overly humid days but seldom use it. It is too loud and way over cools my standard 16'. If I had it to do over again I would have Scamp prep the trailer for AC and cut the hole in the roof but take it to an RV shop and have the Coleman Mach 8 Cub installed instead of the Brisk II that came with it. It is 8" high instead of the 12-3/4" high Brisk and the inside fan controls drop down  2" instead of 2-5/8". Also I think the 9500 BTU of the Coleman would cool the trailer for those of us above the Mason-Dixon line and be able to run off a Honda 2000i generator as well. I would be interested if anyone has the  Coleman AC in their camper. Also I have the propane hot water tank, I wish I had got the duel propane/electric model because I frequent RV sites with electric.

loud AC

kilovictor, I have a 13' on order with AC. Was wondering how old your Scamp is and if the issues with the AC still apply to 2017 units.

Perhaps some NEW owners of 2017 units will reply?

AC

I don't know what Scamp is currently using, but the new RV units that are integrated with the furnace on a digital thermostat turn the AC fan off when the compressor cycles. This is like your house system and much more pleasant to live with.
